Thin Solid Films, Vol.346, No.1-2, 181-185, 1999
Direct formation of Ag-diaminoanthraquinone (DAAQ) complex salts by sequential evaporation.
Diaminoanthraquinones (DAAQ) and silver were sequentially evaporated onto a substrate at a temperature of 300 K. The thickness ratio t(Ag)/t(DAAQ) was about 0.2. The deposited films were analysed by means of optical absorption (IR, visible, near-UV), Raman scattering, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and photoelectron spectroscopy. Two diaminoanthraquinones were used, the first, 1,4-DAAQ, has an intramolecular hydrogen bond, while the other, 2,6-DAAQ, has not. The comparison of the results obtained with these two different sample families shows that no complex salt formation occurs between the Ag and the 2,6-DAAQ while interdiffusion and complex salt formation are found to occur between silver and 1,4-DAAQ. The degree of charge transfer (CT) is amplified by annealing.
