Electrochemical solutions to some thin-film PV manufacturing issues
Electrochemical techniques can offer convenient, low cost and environmentally compatible tools to address a number of manufacturing problems for the CuInSe2 thin-film PV modules. This paper illustrates three areas where electrochemistry could play a crucial role in resolving certain issues, such as, balancing the manufacturing cost versus efficiency and disposal of module waste. Electrochemical strategies may be devised to (a) remove, separate and regenerate the semiconductor films from PV modules in a reusable form, (b) modify surface defects in thin-films. deposited by inexpensive large area methods, and (c) deposit compound semiconductors films with homogenous morphology and stoichiometry.
