Cogeneration and wholesale power markets - Cogneration as an element of a trading portfolio
As a consequence of power market liberalization, most German municipalities owning generation face a serious challenge. The sharp decline in wholesale power prices requires that plants be dispatched economically to avoid tosses. Economic dispatch, however, is based on detailed knowledge of the movement of wholesale market prices, which most municipalities still do not possess.
