An assessment of Nigeria biogas potential from agricultural wastes
This paper assessed Nigeria biogas potential (minimum value) from two domestic agricultural wastes: solid waste and livestock excrements. The study revealed that in 1999 Nigeria biogas potential represents a total of 3.78 X 10(6) m(3) of biogas/day or 1.38 X 10(9) m(3) of biogas/year, or an annual equivalent of 4.81 million barrels of crude oil, or 6.9 X 10(6) tons of fuelwood. Projected annual increment (minimum value) was 138.7 X 10(6) m(3) of biogas, or an annual equivalent of 0.48 million barrels of crude oil, or 0.69 X 10(6) tons of fuelwood. The results of this study will assist national government in its energy planning and supply a decision-action strategical framework.
