The self-assembly of two macrosyclic dinuclear zinc(II) components with 4,4'-bipyridine has yielded two molecular ladders with macrocyclic platforms. One has a 1-D network while the other has a 2-D framwork because of the existence of nonclassical H-bonding. [GRAPHICS]
