The paper looks at the parameters affecting the urban microclimate and their implications for urban design and for thermal comfort outdoors and indoors. A series of case studies and design projects are presented from London, Dhaka and Athens to illustrate diagnostic, analytic and synthetic approaches which may be used by designers to improve environmental conditions in cities.
