Dispersion of cobalt (II) phthalocyaninetetrasulfonate on active carbon
Dispersion of cobalt (II) phthalocyaninetetrasulfonate (CoPcTS) on the surface of active carbon (AC) has been investigated. Samples were prepared by impregnation and the dispersion capacity of CoPcTS was determined by the XPS method. Dispersion capacities on different active carbons differ greatly and are related to the pore structure of the supports. Results show that the molecules of CoPcTS mainly disperse on the surface of large pores (diameter > 2.0 nm) of the support, which is correlative to the dimensions of the CoPcTS molecule. Coverage analysis and XPS binding energy changes of Co 2p(3/2) upon loading indicate that the CoPcTS molecules are adsorbed on the surface of AC in a flat-lying mode. The results may be helpful in the preparation and performance improvement of catalysts used for oil sweetening and electrocatalysis.
