Design of an automated bioreactor system to screen immobilised whole cell catalysts
An automated CSTR system has been developed to study the stability of immobilised whole cell biocatalysts for ammonium acrylate production. Two potentially useful amidase-active rhodococci have been identified: One possesses an amidase of much higher activity than the other but of much lower stability. The activity and stability of each biocatalyst over a range of temperatures has been determined and used to compare the productivity of the biocatalysts in a bioconversion.
