Growth of Rhizobium leguminosarum in a periodic pressure oscillating, solid-state fermentation of wheat straw
Wheat straw impregnated with a nutrient solution was used to culture Rhizobium leguminosarum. The fermentation was carried out in a periodic pressure, oscillating, solid-state fermenter. At 30 degreesC and 3 atm, Rhizobium leguminosarum grew to 5.3x10(10) c.f.u. g(-1) substrate dry matter in about 36 h, while only 1.8x10(10) c.f.u. g(-1) substrate dry matter was obtained in a conventional static tray fermenter.
