Composition profiles in distillation-composition as a function of tray number (tray columns) or bed height (packed beds)-are powerful tools in identifying such phenomena as distribution of phase resistances, recovery from initial maldistributions, the development of channelling and the occurrence of vapour/liquid bypassing.
