Chemical grafting of 2-ethyl methacrylate phosphoric acid onto nylon 6 fabric
Graft copolymerization of 2-ethyl methacrylate phosphoric acid (EMPA) onto nylon 6 fabric is carried out using the K2S2O8/CuSO4 system as reaction initiators. The most important factors affecting the graft, yield are monomer concentration, reaction time and temperature. It was found that the graft yield increased with increasing EMPA concentration, grafting time, and temperature. The grafted nylon 6 fabric shows an increase in moisture regain to reach a maximum of 8.01% with increasing the graft yield to 35.6%. Also, the dyeability with the basic dye was significantly increased due to grafting with EMPA.
