Chitosan blends as fillers for paper
The presented studies are focused on the dependence of paper sheet strength properties such as tear resistance, burst, and extensibility on the composition of additive [chitosan blends with poly(vinyl alcohol) and gelated starch]. Chitosan acetate (cationic) and its blends caused an improvement of the strength properties of paper sheets by the substantial modification of cellulose (anionic) fibers, probably through the presence of strong ionic interactions.
