Synthesis of crystalline ZSM-5 type zeolites utilizing primary monoalkylamines 1. Characterization
ZSM-5 zeolite samples have been produced using a primary monoalkyl amine, sodium silicate solution which had three different compositions as sources of silica, and aluminum sulphate, Al-2 (SO4)(3). 16H(2)O, as a source of alumina in the initial gel. Crystalline ZSM-5 samples were produced using both technical grade and laboratory grade sodium silicate solutions. Product yields of the highly crystalline ZSM-5 samples obtained using technical and laboratory grade sodium silicate solutions were 74% and 60%, respectively. The highest crystalline products were obtained when using n-propylamine and n-butylamine as templates. Crystallinity increased as the reaction time also increased. in experiments using i-butylamine moderate crystallinities and yields, about 60% could be obtained. X-ray diffraction and FTIR methods have been used for the characterization of synthesized ZSM-5 zeolites.
