Proceeding from the state of art, first results of a technical-economical evaluation on centrifugal-mass-accumulator plants (SMSS) with contact-free superconducting magnetic bearings were presented. Investigated was the feasibility of mobile 1-MW-/100-kWh plant. The modular set-up of the system has a number of advantages, such as, for example, flexibility in application, cost-effective operational costs and an increase in operational safety.
