Chemical fragmentation of C60F48
Complex mixtures of fused alicyclic fluorocarbons CnFm (n = 16-30, m = 30-50) were obtained during extensive fluorination of C-60 beyond C60F48 using elemental fluorine at elevated temperatures (275-325 degrees C), Analysis of these fluorocarbon mixtures (performed by GC-MS and NMR) demonstrated that the distribution of individual fluorocarbons in these mixtures is not random. A plausible computational model of the chemical fragmentation process was developed.
