Micellar effects on the kinetics of the oxidation of the excited state of the [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+) complex by S2O82-. A comparison of different approaches for the interpretation of micellar effects on kinetics
The title reaction was studied in micellar solutions of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) as well as in sodium nitrate and in sodium n-octanesulfonate solutions. In all cases, a decrease in the rate constant with increasing surfactant or salt concentration is observed. These results are rationalized using both the pseudophase model and the Bronsted equation. The equivalence of these approaches is shown. In the case of micellar solutions, a non-negligible influence of premicellar aggregates is detected. The conditions of applicability of these approaches are discussed.
