A novel heat treatment process for curing of optical coatings such as sol-gel produced antistatic and antireflective coatings applied to the faceplate of a TV-tube is described. The advantages and important parameters related to this 'skinheating' process are explained, especially with respect to coating curing performance and resulting tensile stresses inside the tube envelope.
