The influence of the ions on the capacity of liquid vertical bar liquid interfaces
Even in the absence of ion pairing the capacity of liquid \ liquid interfaces depends on the nature of the ions. These findings are explained within a lattice gas model, in which the two space-charge regions overlap at the interface. The larger the Gibb's energy of transfer of an ion from one solution to the other, the smaller is the overlap between space charges, and the lower is the interfacial capacity. This predicted trend agrees with experimental results.
