HAWAII NATURAL-RESOURCE INFORMATION-SYSTEM - A TOOL FOR BIOMASS PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
The Hawaii Natural Resource Information System (HNRIS) is a geographical information system and database designed to facilitate the development and implementation of agricultural and environmental technology. Consisting of seven major data files, a set of resource retrieval and interpretation programs/models and a database maintenance/management program, HNRIS is a cost- and time-efficient tool to assist landowners, planners and other decision-makers in Hawaii in making critical land-use and natural resource management decisions. This paper describes the hardware, software and performance of HNRIS, and features an application of HNRIS to estimate yield and delivered cost of tropical hardwood feedstocks in a short-rotation woody biomass production system.
