LANTANA-CAMARA L - A LIGNOCELLULOSIC SUBSTRATE FOR CULTIVATION OF PLEUROTUS SAJOR-CAJU
Lantana was used as the sole substrate for oyster mushroom (Pleurotus sajor caju) cultivation. Colonization was more copious, but bio-conversion was lower, on sterilized lantana than on wheat straw, the mushroom yields on substrate dry-weight basis being 36% and 54.8%, respectively. The mushrooms produced on lantana were free of lantadene A, the putative hepatotoxin in lantana foliage, and were non-toxic to guinea pigs.
