Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria of alkyl carbonates with alcohols
In this paper, isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE) have been experimentally measured for the several binary systems: methanol + dimethyl carbonate (DMC), ethanol + DMC, ethanol + diethyl carbonate (DEC), DMC + DEC, and ethanol + ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC). Thermodynamic consistencies of these experimental data are verified with the statistic method developed by Hu et al. [J. East China Inst. Chem. Technol. (in Chinese) 10 (2) 1984 205] Interaction parameters related to the carbonate group (-OCOO-) in UNIFAC model have been determined using the VLE data, with that of -CH2-/-OCOO- being huge up to 3.31 x 10(5), implying a rather strong nonideality of the systems involving alkanes and alkyl carbonates. The experimental results in this work as well as those by other contributors agree excellently with the calculated ones using the newly correlated UNIFAC parameters.
