Kinetics of the oxidation of triphenylphosphine by nitric oxide
The oxidation of PPh3 by NO to N2O and Ph3PO in homogeneous solution occurs by third-order kinetics, d[Ph3P]/dt = k(3)[Ph3P][NO](2); analysis of solvent and substituent effects suggests formation of a phosphonium diazeniumdiolate intermediate prior to oxygen transfer from nitrogen to phosphorus.
