Large scale experiment on the preparation of vitamin C from sodium ascorbate using bipolar membrane electrodialysis
The acidification of sodium L-ascorbate to produce vitamin C in a large scale bipolar membrane electrodialysis apparatus was studied. The conversion ratio of VcNa to Vc could be above 99% with an average current efficiency of 70%. The yield of Vc in the electrodialysis step could be above 97%. Electricity consumption was below 1.0kWh for 1 kg of Vc. All these results were in good agreement with previous laboratory scale experiment, showing that the scaling effect was not obvious.
