Isobaric heat capacities, densities, isentropic compressibilities and second-order excess derivatives for (1-propanol plus n-decane)
Isobaric heat capacities, densities, and isentropic compressibilities were determined for {xC(3)H(7)OH + (1 -x)C10H22} at atmospheric pressure and temperatures in the interval 280.15 K to 318.15 K over the whole composition range. Isobaric thermal expansivities were derived from the density data, using appropriate thermodynamic relations, and isothermal compressibilities and isochoric molar heat capacities were obtained. Excess values for the given properties were calculated according to the criterion of Benson and Kiyohara. The results are discussed in terms of well-known effects in mixtures containing 1-alkanols and n-alkanes. In particular, the partial destruction of the hydrogen-bonded structure of 1-propanol by n-decane molecules seems to be the dominant effect at a molecular level.
