Improved placement technique for through-tubing gravel packing
In 1999, a high-rate oil-producing well in the Snorre field was gravel packed with resin-coated proppants by use of a new tool for improved proppant placement. The placement tool, consisting of seven fiberglass tubes designed as an internal shunt-tube system, enables gravel slurry to be pumped past possible sand bridges in long completion intervals. The tool was split into three approximately 43-ft sections and placed in the well by wireline. A total of 10 tons of proppant was pumped during the operation.
