Batch distillation in a middle vessel column is a promising alternative to conventional batch distillation as disadvantages such as high temperatures in the feed vessel or a high energy and time demand of the process can be avoided. The article describes the basics of the synthesis of processes for the separation of zeotropic and azeotropic mixtures using this type of column. Furthermore, experimental results are presented and the advantages of batch distillation in a middle vessel column are explained.
