Oxidation of simple indoles at a platinum anode
Voltammetric studies at Pt anodes indicate that simple indoles undergo direct electron transfer near + 1 V versus the standard hydrogen electrode, through a reaction involving multiple electron transfers, as elucidated by means of chronopotentiometry. Direct electron transfer does not appear to be a useful technique for their electrolytic degradation due to concomitant electrode fouling.
