Isolable micelles with a fluid core made of kanamycin A 6'-stearoylamide
Kanamycin, a pseudo-trisaccharide bearing four amino groups, was monoamidated with stearic acid. This amphiphile with a broad headgroup capable of forming +NH3-OH hydrogen bonds in aqueous solution and a narrow hydrophobic moiety produces micelles. They dissolve a hydrophobic porphyrin in water, and they are stable in the dry form. TEM and AFM pictures of these first isolable micelles with a fluid core are discussed.
