Synthesis and characterization of novel grafted amphoteric poly(propylene) fabrics
Novel grafted amphoteric poly(propylene) (PP) fabrics were prepared by gamma-irradiation, which induced grafting of methacrylic acid (MA) onto PP fabric. A subsequent reaction of PP-MA grafted chains with freshly prepared (3-chloro-2-hydroxylpropyl) mine or diamine chloride compounds followed by purification yielded the corresponding amphoteric PP fabrics. The latter were characterized by elemental microanalysis for the determination of the percentage nitrogen. Fourier transform infrared and scanning electron microscopy were performed on methacrylic and amphoteric PP fabrics. (C) 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
