Hydraulic fracturing in the Ghawar field carbonate and sandstone reservoirs
A hydraulic fracturing campaign was initiated in 1998 to treat the sandstone and carbonate formations in the Ghawar gas fields in Saudi Arabia. Numerous wells have been matrix acidized, acid fractured, and proppant fractured. Many different procedures and fracturing techniques have been used. The full-length paper presents field cases from the carbonate and sandstone reservoirs treated with add and proppant and provides a general picture of how fracture treatments currently are conducted.
