Spectroscopic imaging of fluorescence at localized corrosion sites has been accomplished. A fiber optic microspectrometer has been coupled to either a light microscope or near-field optical scanning microscope for the measurements. The spectra of fluorescein entrapped in corrosion products on the surface of aluminum alloy 2024 were compared to that of fluorescein in solution. Future developments are outlined.
