Preparation and Dental Properties of Polymeric Dental Restorative Composites Using Oligoethyleneglycol Diluent System

The preparation of polymeric dental restorative composites (PDRC) was carried out using barium silicate filler and bisphenol-A glycerolate dimethacrylate resin matrix diluted with diacrylates or divinylethers of oligoethyleneglycols. Visible light was utilized to activate the resin matrix for polymerization. In order to enhance the miscibility of inorganic filler with organic resin matrix in PDRC and to conduct the homogeneity of filler, its surface was hydrophobically treated with γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane and freeze-drying method was adopted to remove the solvents. Diametral tensile strength, flexural strength, degree of conversion, depth of cure, polymerization shrinkage, wear resistance, and surface characteristics were investigated to study the effect of diluents onto the dental properties of PDRC prepared herein.
