We analyze and solve in closed form the population balance equations describing abrasion-dominated fragmentation processes and abrasion processes in the presence of chemical dissolution kinetics. The fragmentation model proposed takes into account that abrasion, at each breakup event, generates a manifold of smaller fragments characterized by a continuous distribution, with the constrain that the mass of fines produced at each breakup event is constant.
