Transfer coefficients in complex cases by scaling the transport equations
The equations with partial derivatives describing the transport phenomena are transformed into algebraic equations by evaluating (by scaling) each of their terms using quantities that involve characteristic lengths and velocities. In this manner, expressions have been derived for the transfer coefficients that are valid over the entire range of Prandtl numbers or that combine forced and natural convection or forced convection and a homogeneous reaction. To emphasize the generality of the procedure, it was also employed to derive an expression for the thickness of the layer that is coating a vertical plate that is withdrawn from a large reservoir.
