Temperature dependence of the rate constant for the reaction F((2)p)+Cl-2 -> FCl+Cl at T=180-360 K
The absolute rate constant for the reaction F(P-2) with Cl-2, has been measured using the discharge flow kinetics technique coupled to mass spectrometric detection at T = 180-360 K and l Torr He nominal pressure. Experiments were performed at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD, and Laboratoire de Combustion et Systemes Reactifs-CNRS in Orleans, France. Results of k = (5.7 +/- 0.8) x 10(-11) and (6.2 +/- 0.8) x 10(-11) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1) independent of temperature were obtained by each laboratory, respectively. When the results from both laboratories were combined into one data set, an average temperature independent value of k(1) = (6.0 +/- 1.1) x 10(-11) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1) was obtained. A very slight positive temperature dependence with k(1)(T) = (6.5 +/- 1.5) x 10(-11) exp{-(20 +/- 60)/T} cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1) may also be derived from the combined data in the range T = 180-360 K.
