Accuracy evaluation of improvements to the Madejski splat-quench solidification model
This article evaluates two versions of Madejski's model for solving the droplet spreading and solidification problem. The first version (Madejski's Model 1) consists of the original method proposed by Madeiski with four modifications introduced by previous researchers. The second version (Madejski's Model 2) includes two additional modifications suggested by the present authors. The results from both models are compared to results from the recent literature. The results indicate that Model 2 predicts maximum droplet diameter and droplet spreading as a function of time much better than Model 1. Both models yield the best predictions at high Reynolds and Weber numbers.
