An assessment guideline for implementing earth-sheltered housing for hot-arid climates is presented. The literature is first searched in order to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of the earth-sheltered scheme. This literature search forms the rationale for the relevant stages of the assessment guideline. Each stage is discussed and possible methods of application are presented. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
