The widespread use of expandable sand screens (ESSs) has demonstrated the potential value of expandable technology. Solid-expandable technology provides a means to achieve economically efficient openhole completions that possess cased-hole functionality by using compliantly expanded solid devices to seal against the formation. The ability to achieve cased-hole functionality in an openhole completion provides enormous benefits.
