On the formation of silver carbonyl clusters in CO droplets
Neutral silver cluster CO compounds have been produced by pick-up of silver atoms by large CO droplets. FTIR spectra in the CO stretching frequency region reveal the presence of both fully covered Ag-n clusters for n approximate to 45 and silver cluster carbonyl complexes Ag-n(CO)(m) for n less than or equal to 15. Cationic Ag-n(CO)(m)(+) 1 less than or equal to n less than or equal to 15 and m = 1, 2, 3 were produced by electron impact ionization and identified mass spectrometrically. A post ionization fragmentation mechanism has been proposed to explain the abundance pattern of ionic distributions.
