Seismically guided bypassed-oil identification
Recently, the first large steamflood-project area at Duri field, Area 1, was ramped down to the maintenance steam-injection rate. After 14 years of steam injection, Area 1 has achieved a recovery factor of 64%. Steam generated for this area, aside from the maintenance steam, is used to initiate new areas of development. A multifunctional team to recover the remaining oil generated a redevelopment strategy. Seismic data was used to identify areas of bypassed oil not immediately adjacent to observation wells. Approximately 4.6 million bbl of bypassed oil were identified in the study area.
