Developing the world's largest high-pressure/high-temperature field
The Elgin and Franklin fields are high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) fields in the Central Graben area in the U.R sector of the North Sea. Franklin was discovered in 1985 and delineated with two appraisal wells drilled in 1989 and 1991, The nearby Elgin field, discovered in 1991, was appraised with 2 wells drilled in 1993 and 1994. The close proximity of the two fields provides the basis for a sound and robust joint development. In February 1997, a unitization and joint-development and -operating agreement was entered into for development of the Elgin/Franklin Unit area.
