Electrochemical bromination of germacrene D 1 and geraniol 2 carrying plural olefinic bonds provided the corresponding brominated products 3-10. The bicyclic derivative 6 was preferentially produced from 1, while chemical brominations provided no clear selectivity of its product distribution. Influence of the parameters of the electrochemical reaction conditions was evaluated, aiming at improvement of regioselectivity and yields of the brominated products. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd.
