Erosion prediction for multiphase flow through elbows and tees
Solid particles in produced oil and gas can cause severe erosion damage. Often production rates are limited to prevent erosion damage caused by sand. American Petroleum Inst, RP 14E (API RP 14E) is often used to calculate an erosional velocity. A new model has been developed that includes factors for geometry, fluid properties, and sand characteristics. Comparison of the model with API RP 14E shows that API RP 14E is too conservative for high superficial-liquid velocities but is not sufficiently conservative for low superficial-liquid velocities.
