Velocity measurements of dense diesel fuel sprays in dense air
The measurement of velocities in dense sprays with standard methods (laser Doppler anemometry, LDA, or phase Doppler anemometry, PDA) is difficult because of the high particle number density. Therefore, a laser two-focus method was developed with a modified data evaluation algorithm using cross-correlation. This method allows us to measure velocities within the dense core of a spray near the nozzle exit as well as downstream of the spray injected into a pressurized chamber. The results of measurements both under quasi-steady injection conditions and using a commercial distributor pump are presented.
