Combustion of liquid fuel inside inert porous media: an analytical approach
This paper presents a numerical analysis of combustion of liquid fuel droplets suspended in air inside an inert porous media. A one-dimensional heat transfer model has been developed assuming complete vaporization of oil droplets prior to their entry into the flame. The effects of absorption coefficient, emissivity of medium, flame position on radiative energy output efficiency and optimum oil droplet size at the entry, defined as the maximum size for complete vaporization before entering the combustion zone, have been presented. The inert porous medium with low absorption coefficient will produce high downstream radiative output with large oil droplet sizes. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
