E&P waste management in the Orinoco Delta
Tropical wetlands and the presence of indigenous people with an ancient culture and a strong economic dependence on natural resources made the Pedernales held an environmentally and socially sensitive location. During S years of operations, a total of 2.6 million bbl of E&P waste was handled and disposed of successfully. Poor area drainage combined with high annual rainfall and low natural soil supporting capacity required use of unconventional tools and equipment.
