Color pictures using dielectric films
This article presents a method, for the fabrication of full-color images using silicon dioxide films grown on silicon. Three different oxide film thicknesses are used to create a basis color set from which a color palette is constructed. A mathematical description is made showing how to create this color palette based on the surface area of the basis colors within a pixel. Procedures are outlined for transforming an image saved in the JPEG format into photolithography masks. Processing steps are also described for transferring the image onto a silicon wafer. Results are shown for a specific color picture. (C) 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Col Res Appl, 30, 125-129, 2005: Published online in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).
