Characterization of flow regimes in bubble columns through CCF analysis of pressure fluctuations
In this paper, pressure fluctuations in bubble column are analyzed for regime identification. Three regimes were defined based on the evolution of gas holdup, before further investigation. Cross-correlation function (CCF) analysis was used to retrieve hydrodynamic information contained in the pressure time series. The characteristic time of CCF, (tau(1)), gave approximate information about the liquid flow structure and allowed the evaluation of the velocity of liquid flow near the wall. This method was shown to be an efficient indicator in distinguishing flow regimes. Deterministic chaos analysis was also performed to validate the results of CCF analysis. These results indicated that CCF analysis of pressure fluctuations was a reliable tool for the detection of flow regime.
