The Secondary Nucleation Rate - A Physical Model
A physical model for secondary nucleation is proposed that is based on mechanisms occurring at the scale of the microstructures (macrosteps) present on the surface of parent crystals as a result of growth. This study shows how empirically obtained power laws describing the secondary nucleation rate for a range of different materials, as presented in the literature, can be interpreted in terms of this "surface breeding" model.
