Absorption of Co with Reaction in a Biphasic Medium (Aqueous NaOH-N-Hexane) - Rate Enhancement Due to Dispersed Organic-Phase and Phase-Transfer Catalysis
The absorption of CO in aqueous NaOH-n-hexane dispersions has been investigated in an agitated reactor over a temperature range of 353-433 K. The rate of absorption was found to be significantly enhanced in the presence of organic droplets and an emulsifier. Also, the addition of a phase-transfer catalyst and a Co complex catalyst resulted in further enhancement of CO absorption rates. The effect of agitation speed, NaOH concentration and CO pressure was studied at 353-433 K for different organic-phase hold-ups and the experimental data were found to be in good agreement with a theoretical model incorporating the variation of the gas-liquid interfacial area with hold-up.
